Thank you, Søren. The pilot was a surprise find. He was on someone’s back porch around the corner from where I live. It was a bit of a shock to see him standing there 😁
Through my favourite (Jungian) lens, your four images feel like a quiet street‑level journey ... from the polite Persona to the Shadow, then the heroic Animus, and finally that circular hint of the Self in those four rounded forms.
It’s as though the city is dreaming last week through you, offering up symbols that belong to the same unfolding story. Whether or not you intended it, for me they sit together beautifully, each one a step in the same inner movement. Thanks so much for sharing, Mark. 🙏💖
I love your Jungian lens, Deborah. That’s a very interesting analysis. I can agree with you on the first three, however, I wasn’t initially sold on the “Self in those four rounded forms”. Btw, they’re supposed to be a family of swans made out of old tyres. But then it came to me that there’s four in my family too - me, my wife and 2 daughters (how could I have missed that 😆), so maybe there is something to it 🤔. Not so sure about us being swans though. Thanks so much for your comments, I really appreciate them.
Well ... it’s wonderful that the "swans" have revealed their own symbolic meaning to you, Mark. Jung would say that when an image constellates a personal association like that ... the Self is already at work. Even if they’re made of old tyres, the psyche clearly recognised this "family" shape and placed you right inside the symbol.
Hmm, it might be worth sitting with why that "family‑of‑four shape" spoke to you at this time. You see, often the images we’re drawn to are already carrying something we’re in the middle of living. And perhaps that little swan family was simply the world offering you a quiet reflection of your own centre.
I'm thinking ... swans are often seen as grace emerging for the ordinary. Just perfect then for a street photographer who thinks his images are the opposite! 🙏💖🦢
You might not have had many opportunities to make images, but you've made the most of those that came up Mark! You got the timing of that second one spot on and I'd love to know the story behind the third image but that final one...I can't quite make out what they are - whatever they are it looks like the owner has a family of them, I immediately thought of the three (or is that 4 bears)!
Haha! They’re a family of swans made out of old tyres. In the background there’s also a planter made out of tyres. One time around Thanksgiving they had a tyre turkey. I guess it’s one way to recycle them.
I would also like to know the story behind the pilot. He is rather creepy looking.
So nice to see you back online and I hope this means you managed to fix your computer issues.
Oh that is so brilliant - I see the swans now, but that planter is so well camouflaged I would never have noticed! That's one imaginative gardener!
As for being online - still no computer sadly and my images are stacking up now, it's all pretty frustrating as the reason behind the delay comes down to AI. All the data centres have been buying up memory and storage, pushing up consumer prices to ridiculous amounts. I think Ive got something pinned down now so hoping I might have a desktop by the end of next week.
Yes, I can definitely understand why you’d be frustrated. I’ve heard about the memory shortage due to the data centres but not thought too much about it as I haven’t needed to buy any recently. It’s definitely concerning though. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you 🤞
Well, it may be brief, but it's still enjoyable, Mark🙂. The skipper seems to have enjoyed having his photo taken😉
Haha! I think so too. Thanks so much, Ralph.
You do just fine, Mark!
Thanks, Marcello. I really appreciate your support.
Hey, may not be plentiful but it sure is fun!! I enjoyed that!
Thanks so much, Juliette 🙏
Really fun set, Mark! I love the first image and wish more people would take that advice to heart.
Thanks, Todd! And, yes, the world would be a much better place if that advice were taken to heart 👍🏻
"Always be polite" is a registered trademark? No wonder you don't hear people saying that.
Haha! I hadn’t noticed that until you mentioned it. Well spotted.
For a purported lack of subjects, you nonetheless did very well indeed. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your comments, Nadine.
Still not too shabby Mark.
Thanks, Mike 👍🏻
I love the Air Canada pilot: “we’re not happy till you’re not happy”! And, of course, a polite Canadian! A short, but sweet post…

That’s very interesting, Deborah. You’re now making me really think about what I photograph and why. I’m finding this all very intriguing. Thanks 🙏

The first one!! I think you got quite a bit Mark
Thanks so much, Shital
