Nice to see you here Mark. I too, have been around the bock with various photo websites. Usefilm, fotolog, Flickr. Each one seemed to self distruct. Then I moved to Facebook where at least I had a real relationship with my audience. But I still long for a community of photographers. Substack is the most real platform I've found to date. I like the idea of using words with pictures. It's another way to slow me down and to be more thoutful about what I'm doing. And it's more about relationships than likes. That's becoming increasingly rare and ever more important these days. I look forward to seeing how you use the platform and how it affects you.
Thanks, John! I’m happy to be here. I completely agree with your comments about Substack. Finally, a community of photographers sharing their work and not chasing likes or followers. Like you, I enjoy the slower pace and relationship building. There’s some very interesting and creative people on here. It’s only been 5 months for me so far but I’m pleased with how it’s going. Thanks for your comment.
So glad you are writing... two things you said resonated with me: photography as therapy! I love the feeling when I return home from a great photo outing... and failing miserably at the 365 challenge. I started my on January 2... and made it two days... sigh... maybe I'll try again down the road a bit.
Haha! I think I beat you by about three days on this year’s 356 project…..once again I failed miserably. Sometimes life just gets in the way. Other times it’s a case of memory lapse and just forgetting to take a photo.
Just found you .. through Patrick’s photo competition.. I started here last year by following an author I admired and then took the leap to start my own @Substack
I found it rather confusing to start with - no #s or algorithm meant a lot of my writing felt as if it was drifting into space after submitting it, however I’ve now learnt that the good old fashioned method of following and conversing with others is more fruitful and enjoyable.
Glad you found my Stack. I’m still learning the ropes here but definitely agree with you that being engaged with others is the route to a more rewarding experience. I’m not much of a writer but I’m looking forward to using this platform to share my photos with a wider audience.
